Pajamas can be nice, depending. But a whole day devoted to them? Maybe this oracle is very fond of sleeping. I mean, it appears to enjoy weekends too.

I can't really object to the dancers- but I would never pretend at godhood. Great Maker.

Obviously the cranberries are evil.

I don't even know what they are.

They're little berries. You can make a rather tart juice of them.

Oh. Well, then this oracle doesn't even make any sense.

Maybe they're making the people cranky.

Oh, you were sorted into Hufflepuff?

Yes, recently. Is that good?

Hufflepuffs are very industrious. They're the very staunch, dependable people.

I've been told that I'm very much the Gryffindor. However, I've never put the Sorting Hat on per se.

This Sorting Hat is from the same universe where they deliver their mail by owl, right? And where they use wand magic?

Really? How strange. Then again, I thought the Sorting Hat was a very strange object too. It argued with itself about where I belonged.

So what are the members of House Gryffindor supposed to be like?

[info]rogersmith_bigo
2005-07-28 03:15 am UTC (link)
Perhaps it felt you belonged in another house as well. What was it arguing about?

Gryffindors are supposed to be recklessly brave from what I've been told.

I'm not sure I would call you reckless, but you are brave. So maybe your friends are right.

As for me... well, for a little while, the Sorting Hat couldn't seem to decide whether I belonged in Hufflepuff or Gryffindor.

OOC: The one test out there that does house combinations did in fact sort Vir as a Gryffinpuff- a combination of Gryffindor and Hufflepuff. Makes sense to me. *g*

You would fit both. I got something that sorted me as a Gryffinclaw, which puts me between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw which is the smart house. I figure that one didn't get me at all.

I like to read, but I'm not especially "book smart," as you put it.

Vir tilts his head in thought.

I-I suppose I'm sort of good at people. Good at knowing what people are feeling, I mean... knowing their motivations... knowing what might make them feel better if they're upset... that sort of thing. I guess that could be considered a kind of smart. Maybe.

(Reply to this) (Parent)(Thread)

[info]vir_cotto_tm
2005-07-29 11:56 pm UTC (link)
Maybe... maybe I am more than adequate for what I do now. But that's different.

I guess what I'm trying to say is... I'm a good diplomatic attache. I-I-I don't think I'm the best. I don't. But I'm good... maybe even great. You and Londo and everyone else have told me that often enough that... that I suppose I'm starting to believe it. I can speak four languages fluently and a few others adequately. I-I'm organized, polite, and I try to be dependable. And I'm good with people when I'm speaking to them face to face.

But to be a leader in the Centauri Republic... that requires something different. Something... something I don't have.

You see... Londo is not really popular in the Centaurum. He never has been. But when he walks into the royal palace and speaks, a lot of people listen. They don't like him... but they respect him. Oh, please don't get me wrong- I-I-I would be one of the first to say that the way Londo gained that respect wasn't... wasn't through wise or moral choices. But it's still there, that respect... and it gives him power.

But... but I-I-I don't have that same respect, Roger. When people back home look at me... if they even notice me at all... they see me as Londo's boy... or the young man who gained his position as head of the diplomatic mission on Minbar because of Londo's influence... and then lost it in a matter of months because of some mysterious scandal... or House Cotto's fool.

For all the respect I've gained here on Babylon 5, I-I-I can't lead if my own people don't believe in me.

Does that make sense?

[info]rogersmith_bigo
2005-07-30 05:56 am UTC (link)
Yes, I understand. But one day you'll step out of Londo's shadow and they'll see you for the man you are. You have so much integrity and wisdom. Respect will come in time. And you already have some. It may not yet be your people's, but obviously you have something in you to be respected.

(Reply to this) (Parent)(Thread)

[info]vir_cotto_tm
2005-07-30 06:13 am UTC (link)
Vir looks troubled.

But the people here who respect me now don't... they don't respect me as a Centauri. They respect me because they think I'm not. Centauri, I mean. And back home, that makes a lot of difference.

(Reply to this) (Parent)(Thread)

[info]rogersmith_bigo

I-I-I don't mean to say that I don't appreciate the high opinions people have of me here. I'm actually... well... very touched and amazed by them. But my people have to see that I truly represent them before they'll trust me.

I understand that. Your people are very much into social stature and family placings. It's a pity that a person of merit might be ignored simply because he's not socially accepted.

All right, then. I'll talk to the gardeners. And if they don't have any, I'll talk to the import shop.

Vir grins.

If I find any, I guess we'll have to schedule another lesson. Maybe we can even invite Londo as a... as an impartial judge.
